On June 1, 2013 at 8:28 a.m., Crawford County 911 received a call of a vehicle submerged in water and people stranded in high water in Lightning Creek, near the area of 520 Ave and 70th St, rural McCune, KS.
Deputies on scene reported seeing what is believed to be six people stranded, one clinging to a tree and the others were on or near a bridge. At least three vehicles were stranded or partially submerged in high water as well.
A 13 year old on an ATV was attempting to drive through the water, getting swept away. A truck following the youth, driven by LaDonna Anderson, 46 of McCune was also swept off the roadway by the current. Linda Johnson, 50 of McCune was a passenger in Anderson’s truck. All three were able to get to safety on the bridge and remained there.
They were able to reach help via cell phone and Travis Gideon, 34 Tracey Cook, 44 and Cody Daniels, 23 all of McCune responded. The truck they were driving stalled while driving through the water and they became stranded as well.
Crawford County EMS Water Rescue team responded and launched a rescue boat. All six individuals were rescued with no injuries, all refusing treatment at the scene.
Also responding were McCune Fire, and Crawford County EMS units.
On May 27, 2013 at approximately 1208 hours the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a wireless 911 call reporting a stucture fire at 213 S. Prospect, Franklin, Kansas. The house was fully engulfed upon arrival of first responders. Units from Arma, Mulberry, and Frontenac Fire Departments along with Arma Police Department and Crawford County EMS responded to the fire. The home appears to be a total loss. The home was being rented by Johnathan Money. The home was owned by John Vinardi. The residence at 211 S. Prospect was also damaged. That home is also owned by John Vinardi. The residence appears to be a total loss. The fire is believed to have been caused by a barbeque grill. The fire remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 25, 2013 at approximately 0030 hours, Deputies went to 824 N 250th St. regarding a report of an ATV accident that occurred in Arcadia. Deputies spoke with Alfred G. Rose, 35 of Arcadia in reference to the incident. Deputies were advised that Rose was involved in an ATV accident and his father was taking him to Ft. Scott Mercy for numerous cuts and abrasions. Rose didhave a helmet on when the accident occurred. Rose was given citations for Driving while Suspended and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
On May 26, 2013 at 2331 hours, the Crawford County Sheriff Department was called to the Girard Medical Center in Girard, KS to a report of an injury accident involving a four-wheeler which occurred at an unknown location in Crawford County. Upon arrival, it was reported that Arthur Ray had been operating a four-wheeler at approximately 2000 hours when the ATV was driven off of the gravel roadway and entered a ditch. The four-wheeler rolled before coming to a rest in the ditch. Mr. Ray was thrown from the four-wheeler and received minor injuries. Follow up investigation revealed that Mr. Ray had been operating a 2001 Honda Foreman Rubicon owned by Ervin Kichler of Girard, KS at the time of the accident. Mr. Ray had been travelling westbound on 600th Ave approximately 0.5 miles west of 80th St when he wrecked into the north ditch. There was minor damage to the ATV. The accident is still under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff Department.

RE: Recent Incidents
On April 28, 2013 at 3:35 a.m., Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of 1076 E. 580th Ave, in rural Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas, in reference to a female caller that claimed her vehicle was taken at gun point by three males. Deputies made contact with Shawna Myers of Cherokee, KS. Myers advised that she had picked up 3 unknown males at the intersection of 20th and Walnut in the city of Pittsburg. Myers said that she was stopped at the intersection when an unknown white male knocked on her window and asked if she could give him and his friends a ride to a party outside of Pittsburg. Meyers agreed to give them a ride.
The three males directed her to the area of 250 Street and 580 Avenue which is a low water crossing east of Frontenac, KS. Water was across the roadway due to heavy rains. Myers stopped the car refusing to drive through the water. At this time, Myers stated that one of the males brandished a handgun and ordered her out of the vehicle. Myers got out and ran into a field and hid until they drove away in her 2002 Nissan Altima, valued at approximately $4,000.
Later in the day at 7:57 p.m., Barton County, MO Sheriff’s Office contacted Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and advised that they had located the stolen vehicle in a field east of the state line on Southwest 80th St. The vehicle was impounded for evidence. Deputies were told by a passerby that 3 young males and 2 young females were seen walking westbound away from the vehicle earlier.
Pittsburg Police contacted investigators about a subject who fit one of the descriptions of the 3 male suspects. Investigators interviewed 3 male juveniles who were in custody after running away from an area youth facility.
After the interviews, the Sheriff’s Office submitted a factual affadavit in support of charges against all 3 juvenile males for Aggravated Robbery with a firearm and Theft of Property. All suspects are in the custody of the SEK Juvenile Detention Facility.
Arrest for Indecent Solicitation of a Child:
On 05/15/2013 Billy Joe Bridgewater age forty-seven, was arrested by Deputies with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department on a warrant from the District Court of Crawford County, Kansas. Bridgewater who resides in rural Crawford County was arrested on one count of Aggravated Indecent Solicitation of a Child and one count of Indecent Solicitation of a Child.
The charges stemmed from two females under the age of sixteen, disclosing to investigators with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department that during the month of March 2013, they were abused by Bridgewater at his residence. Bridgewater is currently incarcerated at the Crawford County Jail in lieu of a $15,000.00 bond.

On 05-06-2013 at approximately 2140 hours, deputies responded to 2304 E. 4th St. in Pittsburg, KS. When deputies arrived on scene Pittsburg Fire was already there fighting the fire that was located in the living room area.
The house is owned by William Forest of Scammon, KS. and rented by Zac Sprenkle and Jessica Smith. The renters left the house for a while and when they returned the home was on fire. The structure received extensive damage.
Baker Fire, Pittsburg Fire, Pittsburg Police, and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the fire. No one was injured as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.
