On April 28, 2013 at 3:35 a.m., Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of 1076 E. 580th Ave, in rural Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas, in reference to a female caller that claimed her vehicle was taken at gun point by three males. Deputies made contact with Shawna Myers of Cherokee, KS. Myers advised that she had picked up 3 unknown males at the intersection of 20th and Walnut in the city of Pittsburg. Myers said that she was stopped at the intersection when an unknown white male knocked on her window and asked if she could give him and his friends a ride to a party outside of Pittsburg. Meyers agreed to give them a ride.
The three males directed her to the area of 250 Street and 580 Avenue which is a low water crossing east of Frontenac, KS. Water was across the roadway due to heavy rains. Myers stopped the car refusing to drive through the water. At this time, Myers stated that one of the males brandished a handgun and ordered her out of the vehicle. Myers got out and ran into a field and hid until they drove away in her 2002 Nissan Altima, valued at approximately $4,000.
Later in the day at 7:57 p.m., Barton County, MO Sheriff’s Office contacted Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and advised that they had located the stolen vehicle in a field east of the state line on Southwest 80th St. The vehicle was impounded for evidence. Deputies were told by a passerby that 3 young males and 2 young females were seen walking westbound away from the vehicle earlier.
Pittsburg Police contacted investigators about a subject who fit one of the descriptions of the 3 male suspects. Investigators interviewed 3 male juveniles who were in custody after running away from an area youth facility.
After the interviews, the Sheriff’s Office submitted a factual affadavit in support of charges against all 3 juvenile males for Aggravated Robbery with a firearm and Theft of Property. All suspects are in the custody of the SEK Juvenile Detention Facility.
